RIP: Charles Aaron “Bubba” Smith, a former pro-football player best remembered for his role as Moses Hightower in six Police Academy movies, passed away today of natural causes. He was 66.
The 6ft. 7in. Texas native played defensive end for three teams across nine seasons, even picking up a Super Bowl ring with the Colts, before leaving the NFL in 1976. Smith later had bit parts in movies in TV shows before landing his big break, playing florist-turned-officer Moses Hightower in Police Academy and all but one of the movie’s many sequels.
